Our AimsThe Geography Department is a very well regarded and highly successful department within Wilson's School. All students study Geography at Key Stage 3, which at Wilson's is a two year programme, and the subject is a popular options choice at both GCSE (with a three year programme of study) and A Level. At GCSE the department follows the new AQA specification. At A Level we follow the AQA specification, completing work for the Geographical Issue Evaluation (Unit 4B).
Geography lessons at Wilson's are interesting and challenging and the pupils enjoy the subject at all key stages. Field work is also an integral part of the curriculum. Recent trips have included urban based studies for Year 10 in Croydon, coastal fieldwork for Year 9 in Herne Bay, and examination fieldwork preparation in the Brecon Beacons for Year 12 in March.
The Geography Department aims to:
- foster and develop an understanding of the world around us for students aged 11-18
- engender enthusiasm for the subject through a wide range of learning activities in and out of the classroom
- offer a mix of theoretical and practical learning and the subject allows our students to develop excellent transferrable skills, including ICT, report-writing, completing enquiries, essay-writing, communication and presentation skills and personal skills such as time management and independent study.
We are a thriving department with enthusiastic students and strong uptake in the option years, and we aim to create geographers of the future.
