MATHS COMPETITION 2023–24
Posted on: | Category:

The Hans Woyda Competition has been running in the local area for the past 44 years. It started off with only 8 schools in Sutton and has now expanded to 64 schools from across North and South London and was named after one of the founders. It is a team competition formed of 7 rounds, all timed. Mental arithmetic skills need to be strong as well the students’ ability to work in a team. There are also individual questions, quick fire questions and questions based on new and unusual mathematics.

In the autumn term we played in a round-robin league against 3 other schools: Caterham, Woldingham and Whitgift. We came second in our league (to first place Whitgift) as we had won our first two matches. This led to us qualifying for the next round which was the plate knock out. On Tuesday 30th January we played our game against Tiffin Girls. Unfortunately, it was a narrow loss, by only 3 points!

I would like to say a huge well done to the students from years 9, 11, 12 and 13 who participated in each of the matches, as well as those students on the squad who didn’t manage to take part this time. They were a credit to Wilson’s and I hope it has ignited their passion for more mathematics!

Year 9 students: Haseeb, Jamie, Sanjay and Yin Ting
Year 11 students: Idhant, Vivaan and Aditya
Year 12 students: Advait, Arnav, Minh Vu and Akshay
Year 13 students: Jesse, Nelson and Boris
