Team Reports

Monday 19th June 2023

Wilson’s U15A lost the toss and were asked to field. The Wilson’s bowlers bowled a disciplined line and length and were rewarded with early wickets. The introduction of spin changed the match with Viabhav (3 for 23 off 4 overs) put added pressure on the lower order to score runs. Shivam bowled out the tail enders with (3 for 8 off 2 overs) and Langley Park all out for 67. In reply Wilson’s lost 5 wickets before reaching there total.

Wilson’s U15B lost the toss and were asked to field. On a small ground Langley Park got off to a good start scoring 85 for 1. Credit to the Wilson’s bowlers they adjusted their line and length and kept Langley Park to a gettable score of 130 for 5 off 20 overs. After losing two early wicket Rishabh (36 from 22 balls) and Harshaa (33 from19 balls) batted positively and won Wilson’s the match by 8 wickets.

Wednesday 21st June 2023

Wilson’s 1st XI won the toss and elected to field. A second wicket partnership of 116 helped Langley Park to 155 for 3 off 20 overs. Ashutosh bowled economically in his spell of 4 overs taking 1 wicket for 17 runs. The Wilson’s batters started positively with Udith (44 from 38 balls) and Harishwar (21 from 24 balls) but it was the partnership in the last 5 overs that won the game for Wilson’s with Shravan (39 from 21 balls) and Aditya (22 from 16 balls).

Thursday 22nd June 2023

Wilson’s U14A won the toss and chose to bat. A poor batting display led to 99 all out. The strike rate from the batters was low and this contributed to them getting out. The Trinity batters made our total look far too easy and won within 13 overs.

Wilson’s U14B won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Ayan (25 from 35 balls) and middle order batter Gautam (21 from 20 balls) helped Wilson’s to a total of 107 for 6 from 20 overs. Wilson’s started well with an excellent bowling partnership between Kaneesh (3 for 15 off 4) and Yash (1 for 15 off 4) combined with some great catches saw Trinity plummet to 26 for 4 overs. By the 10th over Trinity were 6 down and still needing 60 runs. Unfortunately, a combination of indifferent bowling and dropped catches saw trinity win with two overs to spare.

Friday 23rd June 2023

Wilson’s U12A won the toss and elected to field against Emanuel School. An excellent bowling display from all the bowlers saw Emanuel all out for 66. In reply Wilson’s won the match in 8 overs by 10 wickets.

Saturday 24th June 2023

Wilson’s 1st XI lost the toss and were asked to bat. Accurate bowling from the Alleyn’s bowlers stopped any big partnerships forming. It was only in the last 6 overs when Pradyumn (36 from 22 balls) and Diyath (20 from 27 balls) helped Wilson’s reach a total of 117 off 20 overs. In reply alleyn’s looked comfortable chasing down the target. It was in the 15th over when Ansh took 3 wickets in his over that changed the game. Udith mopped up the tail taking 4 for 14 giving Wilson’s victory by 9 runs.

Wilson’s U15A won the toss and elected to field. Wilson’s bowled exceptionally well and Alleyn’s were no match and were bowled out for 53 in 15 overs. Wilson’s chased down the total in 5 overs with Adhirit (34 off 20 balls).

Wilson’s U14A had a convincing win by 110 runs.

Wilson’s U13A won the toss and elected to field. A good bowling performance restricted Alleyn’s to 98 for 7 off 20 overs. Unfortunately, a below par batting performance from the Wilson’s batters saw them all out for 70 runs.

Wilson’s U13B were too strong for Alleyn’s bowling them out for 33 and scoring the runs for the loss of no wickets giving Wilson’s a 10-wicket victory.

Wilson’s U12A were involved in a close match with Alleyn’s. Alleyn’s batting first saw Wilson’s restrict them to 58 for 8 off their 20 overs. In reply Wilson’s were bowled out for 54 losing by 4 runs. The U12A’s have had a lot of cricket matches this week and put Saturday’s performance down to tiredness.

Wilson’s U12B won the toss and batted first and scored 148 for 8 off their 20 overs. The Wilson’s bowlers restricted Alleyn’s to 92 all out in 16 overs.

Hobbs Trophy

The U14s this week were invited to Epsom College to take part in the prestigious Hobbs Trophy. A competition bringing some of the best schools in the country to compete in multiple T20 matches across two days.

Our first group stage game saw us play the hosts, Epsom College, where we won the toss and chose to bat. After a slow start to the game, and an early wicket taking, our captain Pratham came into bat and delivered a great batting performance, scoring 52 off 58 balls. Combined with Rayyan’s 33 off 29, we scored 121-3 after 20 overs. Epsom College were calm and composed with the bat, chasing down our total in 13.4 overs, winning by 8 wickets.

After a short lunch break, enjoying the sunshine, we were back out competing in our next group stage game. This saw us play a school unfamiliar to us, Oundle School. Captain Pratham won the toss again but decided to bowl first. Oundle came out striking the ball hard early on, showing great intent with the bat. Despite 3 wickets taken by our spinner Neil, and some phenomenal fielding performances by all the boys, Oundle set an impressive score of 196-5 after 20 overs for us to chase down. Wilson’s knew this would be an uphill battle for us but despite this, remained positive and tried to play attacking cricket. This saw us lose wickets frequently, ultimately falling short and losing by 144 runs.

After a delayed start due to the weather on day two, we started the morning with our final group game against The Leys. After losing the toss, The Leys chose to bat first. A strong opening partnership, with one pupil scoring 89 off 55 balls, meant that Wilson’s were on the backfoot. The Leys ended on 182-4 after 20 overs. To chase this down we needed to score above 9 an over. Despite our boys scoring at a decent strike rate, we were unsuccessful scoring 133-6, losing by 49 runs.

After the group stages came to a close, the final game was against the team that came in the same position as us in the other group. This meant we had a tough final game against Ardingly. After two whole days of cricket the boys were tired but spirits were still high and wanted to finish the tournament off strongly. Ardingly won the toss and chose to bat. Despite one of their openers scoring 53 off 27, we bowled well as a team with Shourya as the standout bowler conceding only 22 runs off his 4 overs and taking 4 wickets. A score of 146 to chase, with a short boundary pitch, meant the boys were confident getting over the line. Saisaurya, our opening batter, performed superbly, almost reaching a half-century (48 off 39 balls). With just two overs left in the match, Wilson’s needed 11 runs to win. At the crease was captain Pratham and spin bowler Rohan. After a single and wide ball, Rohan hit a clever shot down to fine leg for runs. Moving into the last over, Pratham on strike, one boundary was needed to win. With the first ball of the over, Pratham cut the ball behind point to hit the boundary, securing the win by 7 wickets.

Despite strong competition throughout the tournament, the boys were resilient and played positive cricket. They were ultimately rewarded with a win to finish off what was an excellent competition. Thank you to Epsom College for the hospitality and hosting us for the two days.

Reigate 6’s

After a full day’s cricket at the Reigate 6’s competition saw Wilson’s U12A’s put in a competitive performance and reaching the final only losing to Trinity in the last stages of the match.
