YEAR 7 PROGRAMME GETS UNDER WAY
Posted on: | Category:

The first week of term for Year 7 at Wilson’s is undoubtedly a busy and exciting experience. Students experience their first secondary school lessons in different subjects, try out new skills for the first time, and begin their participation in our extensive programme of musical activities.

We are very proud of our Year 7 programme, in which all students are offered the opportunity to learn a musical instrument for their first year of secondary school. This kicked off this week with our “musical carousel.”

On Friday morning of last week, all Year Seven pupils enjoyed listening to demonstrations on flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion and bassoon, ably showcased by our team of peripatetic teachers. All pupils enjoyed some time spent singing, learning a short extract from Early One Morning invididually and then participating in choral singing of The Wellerman. This proved particularly popular with the students, many of whom were familiar with the song from its moment of fame during the pandemic!

Over the weekend pupils were given an opportunity to submit their instrument/voice tuition preferences. Whilst we cannot guarantee that everyone will get to study their first choice, we will do our best to take their top choices into account. Once the lessons have got started in earnest, we are looking forward to hearing the pupils make their debuts in the Year Seven Musical Showcase events that take place in December.
