COMPETITION IN CAMBRIDGE
Posted on: | Category:

On Friday 19 April, Ben (Year 13), Arsh (Year 13), Nelson (Year 13), Boris (Year 13) and I represented Wilson's Y13 at the Náboj maths competition, hosted at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences at Cambridge University. The Náboj is a competition for secondary schools across Europe, with over 600 teams across 12 countries . In 2023, we took 2nd place in the UK, scoring 29 points. We felt that we had improved considerably over the last year, and were ready to win.

In the Náboj, there are 49 increasingly difficult questions, and we had 120 minutes to complete as many questions as possible as a team. Each team is given the first six questions at the start, and you receive a new question upon submitting a correct answer.

As the competition began, we made a strong start, breezing through the first few problems (apart from one which we would not solve until two hours later). The problems required creativity and insight, and were extremely satisfying to solve. Eagerly watching the live leaderboard as we submitted our solutions, as the competition drew to a close we scrambled to submit our final problems. We came first in Cambridge, with Abbey College Cambridge and King Edward VI School closely behind.

The year 12 team (Arnav, Ansh, Minh, Parth, and Gowtham) put up a good performance for their first attempt, coming in at fourth place. We wish them luck next year and hope they can continue the legacy!

After the competition, we enjoyed spending time in Cambridge and visiting some of the colleges with Alex (OW 2023) before taking the train back to London. Thank you to Mr Jerrom for supporting us in this competition!
