Player Of The Week

The 1st XI back five was impenetrable on Wednesday against Riddlesdown: it was another clean sheet led by their influential captain Matt (Year Thirteen, photo below with vice-captain Harry ) who is this week’s Player Of The Week.

In a weather-hit week there were three pupils that took the headlines with hat-tricks. Tom (Year Eleven) from centre back got three goals for the 3rd XI and Aron (Year Seven), who has been excellent all season for the U12A’s, helped himself to a stunning hat-trick in their game. The third pupil was Max (Year Thirteen) for the 1st XI, whose three goals that took his total to sixteen for the season. He is having a superb season and, even more impressively, it’s only his second full season playing outfield (banner photo above, with Adhrit).

Team Of The Week

Team of the week is the 1st XI who produced a complete performance to beat Riddlesdown 5-0 and move into the last 32 of the National Cup. They continue to set the standard: despite all games being cancelled on Saturday, they were still training in the bitter cold!

The U12As roared into the Surrey Cup quarter-final with a 3-0 win over Harrodian on a cold winter’ s day at Mollison Drive. On Wednesday there were thrillers all round with the Year Eleven teams going goal crazy: the 3rd and 5th XI shared fourteen goals between them in their two wins!

Match Report

U13 in the National Cup
U13A 3 VS 2 St Cecilia’s

Last week, the U13A football team managed to win an extremely close and tense game against Saint Cecilia's Church of England School. This game was especially exciting as it was the National Cup fourth round. It was filled with drama and special moments for all players.

It started off very well for us as we got onto the front foot early, and we soon scored thanks to a brilliant free kick by Aidan that rocketed into the top corner. We kept applying pressure and creating chances before we scored again with a good finish from Joel that nestled into the bottom corner. The midfield battled extremely well, putting in strong tackles left, right and centre. We kept them very quiet due to our determination and concentration on winning the game. Our defence and goalkeeper also put in a shift, with Zeeshaan tipping a header from their freekick onto the crossbar. The first half finished 2-0 to us.

However, in the second half, some mistakes from us led to the opposition scoring very early on, meaning that they had momentum. This led to them eventually scoring again due to another mistake from us and a lack of concentration. This meant that it was 2-2 with a lot to play for. We were under pressure a lot in the second half and defended well for the rest of it. Our players were also very tired as we only had one substitute, so it was great show of determination shown from us. The match moved into extra time…

In extra time, the attack and midfield did very well, creating a lot of chances and making the St Cecilia’s players make mistakes. We were getting closer and closer to a goal, and we did score one - although it was offside. We didn't want to go to penalties because we knew we could win if we could keep creating chances as we were already and eventually, with four seconds left of extra time play, Callum scored an extremely important goal from a good cross by me to win us the game. The match winning moment was the best feeling of the season so far as it brought us together and gave us a very strong sense of relief.
