Player Of The Week

Player Of The week is 1st XI right winger Noel (Year Twelve); he was clinical in scoring from both of his opportunities, and his impressive fitness levels drove the 1st XI on to victory in the National Cup.

In the same game midfield stalwarts Ben (Year Thirteen) and Sam (Year Thirteen) were strong in the middle of the park. The indefatigable Aron (Year Seven) was a leader for the U12As in their tough National Cup match versus Beth’s Grammar—he covered every blade of grass, driving the team forward. Joe (Year Ten) in a new position, playing further forward than he has previously, showed excellent composure to score two super goals for the U15B’s.

Team Of The Week

Team Of The Week are the U15Bs, who got their first win of the season by beating ACS 5-1. It was a first-rate performance, which will give the side confidence for the rest of the season.

The 7th XI won the big intra-school derby with a thrilling 5-4 win against the 2nd XI. Brandon (Year Thirteen) was the hero, scoring from the half way line! The 1st XI had to dig deep to win away in the National Cup 6-2 versus Orleans Park.

Match Report

Wilson’s 3 vs 3 Glyn
Wilson’s U12 As played a very promising first match against a strong Glyn side. There was a buzz of excitement in the air that day as eager footballers were waiting to show the world what they were made of. An early morning kickoff on a bright, sunny Saturday provided a pleasant backdrop to the first match of the season.

As the players walked onto the pitch, shouting words of encouragement, a new atmosphere had been set—one where both teams desperately wanted to win. Setting up in a 3-3-2 formation, Wilson’s was finally ready. With a formidable Zachariya in goal, an extremely strong back three of Sid, Harry and Pratyush ready to intercept any opposition efforts at goal, an all-action midfield with Max, Aron and Raphael ready to cover every inch of the pitch and Jesse and Aayush at the top of the pitch, the team was ready to bang the goals in.

The whistle blew. Suddenly, the game was live, and the ball was everywhere—in the air, at someone’s feet but not in any goal. Wilson’s were on top, creating lots of chances, but the goals just wouldn’t come. The Glyn goalkeeper was having an amazing game, denying many goalscoring opportunities until finally, the dam broke.

Aayush played an amazing ball through to Raphael who had just entered the opposition penalty area and, with his first touch, edged the ball between two defenders and with his second, shot the ball into the bottom left corner. The goal that Wilson’s needed had finally come. Wilson’s continued to dominate and after much more effort, another goal came. An excellent corner from Aayush landed squarely on an unmarked Aron’s head and went into the net with no competition. Another one! 2-0 up and the half-time whistle hadn’t even blown yet! The first half ended 2-0 but now Wilson’s faced a challenge – the uphill slope.

The second half started with fairly even play until Kiaan made the scoreline three to none. Scrappy play in the Glyn box led to Kiaan sticking a foot out and the ball rolling into the net. Three goals and the odds were looking ever in Wilson’s favour. However, Wilson’s switched off and much to their horror, Glyn scored: one, two, three goals—and suddenly the match was all tied up. A furious battle for dominance in midfield led to chances from either side but still no more goals. The match concluded frantically and finally the whistle blew. 3-3.

A disappointing result for the Wilson’s boys, who had been 3-0 up at one point, but a victory of sorts for the Glyn side who had fought their way back into the game. Hopefully, the next match will have a positive result for our hard-working Year Seven footballers.
