WILSON’S HAS A DEVELOPING REPUTATION for being one of the leading state schools for cricket in the county. For our cricket provision we have been included in The Cricketer magazine’s Top 100 Schools for the fourth consecutive year, of which we are rightly proud. The school plays over 130 games a season with 12 teams having a regular fixture list with occasional games for C and D teams. Matches are played every Saturday and during the games lessons for each of the age groups.

The department works with specialist staff who all have a vast amount of playing and coaching experience.

The Coaching Programme

Each age group team has winter net practice between January and March before the season starts. Once into the summer term, the different age groups receive coaching in their games lesson and additionally have one after-school practice. The outdoor nets are open every lunchtime for team and non-team players to come along to practise. The school runs an Emerging Player Programme (EPP) which sees talented U13 & U14 players who may be future 1st XI players receive some specialist one-to-one coaching. Cricket also features in PE Lessons from Year 7 up to Year 11.

We have boys at the school who are involved with the Surrey CCC Development and Performance programmes; often Wilson’s pupils play for the Surrey Schools U15 team in the annual Hobbs Trophy match at The Kia Oval.

Wilson’s has a very busy fixture list playing against a mix of State and Independent Schools from Surrey, Sussex and Kent. There are notable matches against Whitgift, Trinity and Reigate Grammar plus the 1st X1 have prestigious fixtures against the MCC and The Forty Club. All A teams for each age group take part in a Sutton League and are entered into their relevant Surrey Cup. The 1st XI and U15s also take part in National competitions.

On top of the normal season games, a cricket tour takes place on a regular basis, with Barbados and Dubai being the most recent destinations.
