Player of the Week

Philo (Yr 9) had a great week for the U14Bs. After changing position to centre forward , he scored five goals in two games. Another player in the goals was Ben (Yr 9) for the U14As scoring an excellent hattrick in their win over Salesian's and in the same game Conor (Yr 9) scored a goal of the season contender. Matvei (Yr 9) was excellent for the U14Ds at the back, constantly blocking shots and crosses for the team. Joe (Yr 9 — photo, right) continued his good season with three assists and a bullet header, but player of the week is Mathew (Yr 9) who put the team first to play in goals with Max (Yr 9) injured. He made a couple of great saves and went on to keep a clean sheet.

Team of the Week

The U14Bs went goal crazy scoring fifteen goals in two games against City Of London and Salesian College. The U12As made it through to the national elite quarter final with a deserved 3-1 on penalties versus Bishop Challoner. A good performance with enough chances to win in normal time, but Adhrit (Yr 7) was the hero saving two penalties in the shootout. The U13As are team of the week. They put in two controlled accomplished performances to beat KCS and Salesian College.

Gareth Southgate Interview

Stacks Image 3964
Me and a select lucky few were recently invited to attend a Q&A session with England football manager Gareth Southgate at Wembley Stadium as part of the Mayor of London backed 'Diversification of the Sports Media Programme'. The event marked the start of a burgeoning relationship between BCOMS (The Black Collective of Media in Sport) and the FA, with the Euro 2020 Championships on the horizon. Gareth spoke candidly on a number of interesting topics, including the need for greater diversity in the sport as well as his relationship with the British press, before we were whisked away for an hour long tour of the stadium.

This was hopefully just the beginning of another exciting few months for us young aspiring sports journalists, culminating with an opportunity to cover the Euro 2020 Championships in the summer months. Many thanks to BCOMS once again and the FA for hosting us!
