Success at SATRO

Problem-solving Competition

On Tuesday 4 February, 3 teams of 5 students from Year 9, 11 and 12 travelled down to St Bede's School to take part in the SATRO problem solving competition heats. SATRO is a Surrey based charity organisation setup to encourage more students to follow careers in engineering. As part of this commitment, they run a problem solving competition for Surrey schools where the students have to construct something out of limited resources to meet a design brief. Our students had already proved their problem solving mettle by winning the trials held in school two weeks earlier in which over 60 students had competed for the chance to represent the school. On the night the competition was fierce and the engineering designs innovative. All three teams produced excellent designs, but it was the Year 11 team who managed to score sufficient points to qualify for the grand final on 26th March – congratulations!
