EXPRESS YOURSELF!

This year sees Dance introduced into Wilson’s curriculum for Year Seven, and last Thursday 7C were the lucky class to be able to claim that they were the first Wilson’s students in 408 years to be taught Dance in the classroom. Mr Kavanagh, the Director of Drama & Dance, will teach all year 7 one hour of Dance every cycle for the whole year in the Lecture Theatre. We are very pleased with the refit of the Lecture Theatre for Dance—it has had brand new mirrors fitted, not to mention a small stage erected and large pictures of past productions have been hung on the walls to inspire the students. Wilson’s now has an inspiring space, fit to inspire our students.

Dance is part of the National Curriculum and a great way for students to express themselves and build character and confidence using their bodies. In Year Seven Dance, the students will learn the disciplines of dance whilst studying practitioners and famous choreographers like Fosse, Gillian Lynne, Arlene Phillips and Jerome Robbins. Students will get an opportunity to showcase some of their work at the Candlelight soirée in January, not to mention the Year Seven Production later in the year—so watch this space for the future stars of Dance at Wilson’s!
