This has been a very successful term so far for sport in the Lower School (Years 7 and 8). On Friday last week, we were treated to a fantastic afternoon of football, with no less than ten Year 7 teams playing in fixtures against Ravens Wood School! Any pupil who wanted to represent the school could do so and so we had 150 pupils (more than three-quarters of the year group!) pulling on the famous yellow jersey. With Ravens Wood School teams as our cheerful opponents, there were goals aplenty, some fantastic performances, and lots of smiles all round. All the games were played in a great spirit, and we were delighted by the sportsmanship and the care to give everybody a great experience (including looking after opposing players when injured). Well done everyone!
We also saw an excellent performance from the Year 7 and 8 indoor cricket team (banner photo, above) on Monday when they beat three schools to reach the county finals (which take place later this month).
In the first match Wilson’s restricted Dunottar to 36 all out. In reply, a powerful batting display saw Wilson’s win in 3 overs scoring 38 for the loss of only 1 wicket. In the second match against Glyn, Wilson’s batted and set a total of 70. Quality bowling and fielding kept Glyn to 63 for 2 giving Wilson’s the victory. An enthralling last match against Ashcombe School saw them score 78 in their 6 overs. In a nervous last over, Wilson’s managed to pass the opposition team’s score with a ball to spare! Congratulations to all involved.
Look out for plenty more news about rugby, athletics and a range of other sports in the weeks ahead!
