UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

We have had another successful year in the Southampton Mathematics Challenge. Students from Years 7 to 10 submit their worked solutions to the puzzles. Some students were able to attend the prize giving event at the University (see the article below). Students who were not able to attend will receive their certificates and prizes from the Maths Department soon. Very well done to all of our students who took part and congratulations to all winners! Back in June, I had the opportunity to embark on a memorable journey to Southampton University for the prestigious Southampton Maths Challenge award ceremony. Accompanied by fellow students from Wilson's School, we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. The vibrant atmosphere was filled with excitement, and a wide selection of mathematical puzzles awaited our eager minds.

The event commenced with an engaging and inspiring welcome speech delivered by Dr Itamar Yaakov and Dr Sunny Yu. Their words set the stage for the much-anticipated announcement and presentation of the highly sought-after awards. To my utmost delight, I was honoured with a first-place certificate and a £30 Amazon voucher.

The evening continued to captivate attendees with a captivating speech titled "Einstein's Great Idea," delivered by esteemed mathematician Professor Nils Andersson. With great eloquence, Professor Andersson delved into the profound discoveries made by the renowned mathematician Albert Einstein. The lecture unveiled the intricacies of Einstein's revolutionary theories, highlighting their lasting impact on our world today. The audience was enthralled as the lecture unfolded, revealing the brilliance and significance of Einstein's contributions. The event also fostered a sense of unity, as a commendable number of Wilson's students attended the ceremony. Many of my peers also received esteemed awards and prizes. The event provided a remarkable platform for intellectual enrichment and a celebration of outstanding achievements.

Overall, the Southampton Maths Challenge award ceremony was a memorable experience, combining intellectual stimulation, recognition of exceptional talent, and the joy of shared success. It served as a testament to the dedication and passion exhibited by Wilson's School students in the field of mathematics!
