CELEBRATING LOWER SCHOOL SPORT, PART 2

(See last week’s articles on lower school football and cricket here.)

Last week saw the final sevens tournaments for this year as the rugby season draws to a close. The Year 8 team produced a fighting display at Ibstock Place, missing out on the Plate final by one conversion—a fantastic performance given the absence of the team captain. The players drew from their previous experience to produce a display that they can be very proud of. Special mentions go to Howard for leading the team throughout, and to Vincent and Jatin for some amazing tries scored on the day. The team also welcomed a newcomer, Tayyab, who produced some excellent performances.

Weeks earlier, Orleans Park had hosted a competitive tournament which saw us enter the Plate competition (having finished second in the initial group stages, just behind the hosts). After a close loss against Fulham Boys, the Year 8 team responded well and bounced back to win against Kew House. The final match in the Plate competition saw us up against Reigate Grammar, a tough team to play. The boys showed their resilience, despite going a try down early on, and came back to salvage a 15-15 draw which was well deserved. Well done to all those involved!

The Year 7 team enjoyed their first experience of a sevens tournament and developed their game very well as the tournament progressed. The boys showed great grit and determination to improve and pulled off a win against the hosts in the final game of the Bowl competition, with excellent displays from captain Owen, the impressive Xavier and the influential Kaynen. The team has shown excellent effort and enthusiasm throughout the year and the boys are already looking forward to the new rugby season starting in September!

Well done to all those who have represented Wilson’s in rugby this year. You have produced some excellent performances and shown some brilliant sportsmanship; we look forward to finishing off the season on a high, with one last game against Box Hill still to come…
