Wilson's School

Making purposeful use of digital technology

laptops

Our digital strategy provides access to technology across a range of subjects at Wilson's, never as a replacement for traditional forms of learning, but as a powerful tool to enhance it. This ensures that pupils are not just using devices for the sake of it, but developing skills that are relevant, and subject-specific - for example when using iPad Pros in DT or specialist software in music or geography. In line with our Aims and Ethos, the goal is to equip pupils with a broad range of skills to help them thrive in and beyond the classroom. There are times when the digital technology needs to be put to one side: a pen and paper is sometimes enough to stimulate great brain power!

Although we have replaced every desktop PC in the school over the last couple of years, issued all teachers with both laptops and iPads, installed SMART boards in every classroom and updated to the very fastest wifi, we believe that access to technology is not just about having the latest gadgets. It's about using digital tools in meaningful ways to enhance learning, encourage independence, and prepare pupils for the future.

To ensure this, our staff receive regular training, and our curriculum is regularly reviewed to make sure our use of technology remains purposeful and safe. This week, teaching staff met to explore the potential benefits, as well as the limitations, of AI in planning and assessment.
