Wilson's School

Borough Sports Athletics Championships 2025

On Tuesday 3 June, athletes from across the borough descended on The David Weir Leisure Centre to take part in the annual Borough Sports Athletics Championships. This year, students from Years 8, 9 and 10 donned the golden vest, in search of glory. Unfortunately, the Year 7s were away in Brecon, however they will be back next year and raring to go.

It was a fantastic day of athletics, with Wilson’s students winning an impressive twenty medals.  In Year 8, Sid (8B) threw fantastically to win gold in the Javelin. Nawar (8S) ran a fast 1500m, taking a silver medal in the first event of the day. There were also bronze medals for Liam (8D) in the Hurdles, Max (8B) in the 100m, Thanveesh (8G) in the Shot Put and Hayden (8S) in the Discus.

In Year 9, James (9G) showed again his speed, agility and excellent technique as he cruised to victory in the 80m Hurdles. Christian (9S) ran another great race like last year, this time taking silver in the 800m. There were bronze medals in 100m for Luca (9S), and Aarush (9H) in the 300m and the 4x100m Relay Team.

The greatest medal haul was collected by the Year 10s. Harry (10S) won silver in the 100m, as did Alex (10H) in the 200m, Philip (10H) in the 300m, Rico (10C) in the Hurdles, Eshvar (10H) in the Long Jump and the Relay Team. Vincent (10B) won bronze in the 800m, as did Jatin (10G) in the Triple Jump and Rohan (10S) in the High Jump. One of the performances of the day, to go along with his victory at English Schools First Round, was Dorian’s (10G) gold medal in the Shot Put. A fantastic throw, which puts him in a good position for the Surrey Schools Championships, taking place on 14 June. Dorian is one of eight Wilson’s athletes who have qualified to represent Team Sutton at this competition.

An excellent team effort from all athletes involved. Well done for training hard and we will go again next year, faster and stronger.
