Cambridge History Trip

Earlier this half term, a select group of Year 10s was lucky enough to go on a wonderful trip to Cambridge to visit two different colleges at Cambridge university: Downing College and Queens’ College. We also had the chance to look around the two universities and get a glimpse of what university life would be like. First, we went to Queens’ College and learnt about the history of the college, such as why the college was even built there – this was built for the Queen Margaret of Anjou, and later for other queens, hence the name Queens’ College. We were also given a memorable lecture by the renowned historian Dr Gareth Atkinson.
In the second half of the day, we went to Downing College, where we were able to meet an Old Wilsonian - Aaron Gillett - who had kindly agreed to give us a tour of the college. At Downing College, we were given an insight into how college life would operate, including leisure activities, and how students learn and are assessed. Most importantly, we were able to have a Q&A session with Aaron, which was extremely useful and addressed many of our questions about university life.
In short, it was a hugely enriching experience and we were all profoundly grateful.
