Wilson's School

Celebrating Languages Week

Last week, the school came alive with the sounds, flavours, and traditions of languages from around the world as we celebrated International Languages Week! From quizzes to bake-offs, café races to cultural taster lessons, students across all year groups embraced the chance to explore and celebrate the rich diversity of global languages and cultures.

Our biggest and most competitive event was the All Years House Quiz, where teams showed off their linguistic and cultural knowledge in a lively contest. Congratulations to Southwark House, who stormed to victory, followed by Brecon House.

Other highlights included the Year 7 Boules Competition, where Sahil (Datchelor) took first place, and Vishnu (Southwark) came second.

The Year 8 EURO Bake Off filled the air with delicious aromas as talented young bakers created European-inspired dishes. Congratulations to all our winners:

  • Arjun (8C) – Showstopper
  • Kian (8D) – Best Savoury
  • Adam (8S) – Best Sweet
  • Kabit (8G) – Best in Show
  • Imaad (8S) – Best Taste

Meanwhile, our Year 10 students raced to serve up excellence in the La Course des Cafés competition. Datchelor House sped to first place, and Brecon followed close behind.

Our Year 9 Assembly was led by one of our sixth-formers Kaloyan (13JL) on the importance of learning languages.

To top off the week, we enjoyed a series of inspiring Language Taster Lessons. A big thank you to our talented student linguists who shared their knowledge and passion:

  • Fajad (9S) – Quranic Arabic
  • Nathan (9B) – Bangla
  • Rijushan (9D) – Tamil
  • Kushagra (10C) and Hardik (10S) – Hindi (100 points)

Congratulations to Southwark House, our overall Languages Week Champions! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who took part, supported, or helped organise these events. Your enthusiasm made this year’s Languages Week a truly memorable celebration of culture, community, and communication!
