Celebrating Chamber Music


One of the many musical highlights from last half term was our Spring Chamber Concert, featuring smaller ensembles in a packed out evening in the Recital Room. As well as wind and brass ensembles directed by Mr Sanders, Ms Dennis and Mr Scaife, we enjoyed performances by a series of outstanding string chamber groups, including a quartet composed entirely of members of one Year 8 tutor group (8G)!

One of the groups - the String Octet - is performing in the Coulsdon and Purley Festival this weekend. They will be playing Mendelssohn's famously fiendish Opus 20 - his Octet in Eb major - and rehearsals were recently captured on video (see below).

Also represented at the concert was our Chamber Choir, which is preparing to perform in the upcoming Founder's Service, as well as joining other members of the full school choir on a trip to St John's College, Cambridge later in March.
