Cricket Update #9

Team Reports

Wilson’s U15A lost the toss and were asked to bat first against Sutton Grammar in the semi final of the Surrey Plate competition.  Openers Raghav and Tejas got the team off to a flying start, racing to 40-0 after just 5 overs. Raghav was particularly aggressive, scoring 28, while Tejas supported well with 11.

However, Sutton Grammar responded with tight and disciplined bowling, applying pressure and slowing the scoring rate. Wickets began to fall at regular intervals, disrupting the momentum. Although several batsmen got starts, no one was able to convert them into a big score. Key contributions came from: Virag – 21, Avukuth – 22, Eshwar – 2.

The team struggled to push towards a competitive total and fell short of expectations, posting below-par.

Wilson’s began well with the ball, claiming an early wicket and showing good energy in the field. However, a strong partnership between two Sutton Grammar batsmen shifted the game’s momentum. Unfortunately, Wilson’s let their intensity slip after the drinks break, with lapses in fielding and a visible drop in team morale.

This allowed the Sutton Grammar batsmen to capitalise, with two of them remaining unbeaten on 50 and 70, respectively. They chased down the total comfortably, winning in the 16th over with 9 wickets in hand.

Wilson's 1st XI won the toss, elected to bowl first – a decision that paid off almost immediately. The opening bowlers set the tone with tight lines and disciplined lengths, making scoring difficult from the outset. Ishaan struck early and finished with 2 for 22, Athi was unplayable at times, returning remarkable figures of 3 for 6.

The pressure never let up as the fielders backed up the bowlers with sharp catching. The innings was wrapped up swiftly when Ieuan ran through the tail, claiming 3 for 16, as Wallington were bowled out for just 74 in the 29th over.

In reply, Wilson’s chased down the target with authority. Ved led the charge with a blistering 47 off 36 balls, taking the game away from Wallington in the early overs. The run chase was completed in just the 12th over, with Wilson’s sealing the win for the loss of only two wickets.

Wilson’s U14A won the toss chose to bat first against Langley Park. With no retirements agreed, the decision proved to be a fortunate one as Luca delivered a spectacular unbeaten century, scoring 100 off just 67 balls on a challenging pitch. It was a composed and mature innings, anchoring the entire innings superbly.

He was well supported by Chirayu, who contributed a fluent 29 off 27 balls, rotating the strike effectively to keep the scoreboard ticking. Wilson’s finished on an imposing 166-4

Langley Park’s reply got off to a shaky start, largely due to a brilliant opening spell from Vidur, who left the opposition reeling at 15-3 after 3 overs. Vidur’s consistent bowling and sharp fielding were standout features of the innings, finishing with impressive figures of 4-10-3, alongside three run-outs and a catch—a true all-round fielding display.

Sai bowled with excellent variation, returning 0-11 off 4 overs, keeping the pressure firmly on. Olly also chipped in with two vital wickets (3-19-2), ensuring Langley never built any momentum.

The Langley team was bowled out for 106 in 18.3 overs, handing Wilson’s a dominant 60-run victory.

Wilson’s U14B lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. The bowlers responded well, taking wickets at key moments to prevent Langley from building momentum. However, extras ended up being the top scorer, highlighting the need for greater consistency and discipline with the ball.

Despite that, the fielding was sharp on a difficult outfield, and the bowlers delivered some standout spells: Danish: 2-6 off 2 overs, Ariv: 2-16 off 4 over

Langley posted a modest total, one that Wilson’s were confident in chasing.

Wilson’s chase started with Aditya playing some elegant strokes, including a few early boundaries. However, his dismissal in the third over triggered a mini-collapse, with three wickets falling in quick succession.

The pressure was absorbed brilliantly by Hardik and Ariv, who formed the match-winning partnership. Hardik played a commanding innings of 48 off 38 balls, anchoring the chase. Ariv supported him superbly with a calm and composed 34 off 33 balls.

Their partnership ensured there were no further hiccups, guiding Wilson’s to a well-earned 6-wicket victory.

Wilson’s U12A won the toss and elected to field first on a pitch offering variable bounce—conditions that heavily favoured the bowlers. The bowling unit capitalised well, maintaining pressure throughout the innings and bowling Langley out for 74 in just 19.2 overs.

Standout performances with the ball came from: Arjun: 3 wickets for just 3 runs in 2 overs & Shrihaan: A devastating spell of 2 wickets for 0 runs in just 1.2 overs

In reply, Wilson’s chased down the target with ease. Openers Arjun and Will batted aggressively and confidently to finish the job in style: Arjun: 26 off 20 balls, Will: 30 off 19 balls. The target was reached inside 9 overs, securing a dominant win.

Wilson's U12B lost the toss and were asked to bat against Langley Park. Skipper Vivaan made a few tactical changes to the batting order. Vivaan Mahesh responded well, anchoring the innings with a composed 38 off 45 balls. While no other batter passed 40, Langley’s wayward bowling meant that extras comfortably top-scored, contributing a hefty 70 runs to the total. Wilson’s closed out their innings on 152 for 4 after 25 overs.

With the ball, Wilson’s were relentless. Langley never settled, and the pressure told quickly. Krish was outstanding, bowling with superb consistency and control to finish with remarkable figures of 4 overs, 3 maidens, 4 wickets for 5 runs – a real masterclass in line and length. He was well supported by Rahavan, whose tidy spell of spin (3-4-2) helped tighten the screws further.

Langley were bowled out for just 65 in 16 overs, as Wilson’s secured another win.

Wilson’s U15A travelled to face Tiffin School, losing the toss and being asked to field first on what proved to be a good batting surface. Tiffin’s openers made full use of the conditions, launching into an aggressive start and racing to 60 runs in the first six overs.

Despite the early onslaught, Wilson’s bowlers showed great resolve. Gradually tightening the screws, they wrestled back control and were eventually rewarded by bowling Tiffin out for 183 in the 25th over. Standout performances came from Athi (3–23) and Parth (3–26), who both bowled with skill and discipline under pressure.

Chasing 184, Wilson’s innings got off to a shaky start with early wickets falling. But the middle order showed real character, with Anshul contributing a determined 33 and Abhi playing a fine innings of 53 to keep hopes alive.

Ultimately, the run rate and regular wickets proved too much to overcome, and the team were bowled out for 170 in the final over, falling just 13 runs short in what turned out to be a thrilling finish.

Wilson’s U14A lost the toss and were sent into the field. A shaky start saw two early chances go down, both of which would have removed Tiffin’s openers. The missed opportunities allowed the visitors to race ahead, looking well set for a huge total at 9 overs. However, Olly’s introduction into the attack changed the momentum, delivering a tight spell of 4 overs, 2 wickets for just 18 runs, and helping restrict Tiffin to a more manageable 133 for 4.

In response, Wilson’s struggled early against Tiffin’s sharp new-ball bowling. Both openers, Sevin and Olly, fell for ducks, and the scoreboard read 12 for 3 inside 3 overs. A rebuilding effort from Luca (29 off 21) and Chirayu (18 off 22) offered brief hope, but wickets continued to tumble.

Unfortunately, with the rain arriving in the 17th over and Wilson’s on 97 for 9, the game was called off. The DLS calculation handed Tiffin a 29-run win.

Wilson’s U12A won the toss and chose to bat first in their 25-over encounter against Tiffin — and that decision paid off handsomely.

From the outset, the Wilson’s batters showed positive intent. Guhan led the way, anchoring the innings with a well-constructed 54 off 43 balls, mixing powerful strokes with smart running. As the innings progressed, Arjun (23 off 17), Vayun (37 off 25), and Will (30 off just 16 balls) produced an exciting late-innings surge, combining clean hitting with sharp running between the wickets. The final total of 202 for 6 was a commanding one.

In reply, Tiffin started with intent but found it hard to keep pace against tight bowling and energetic fielding from Wilson’s. Arjun continued his all-round impact, claiming 3 for 19, while Reyansh Goyal (3–32) and Leo (2–16) also chipped in with crucial wickets at regular intervals.

Tiffin were bowled out for 129 in the 20th over, handing Wilson’s a convincing 73-run victory.

Wilson's U12B elected to bat first in their 25-over clash against Tiffin, and the tone was set early by a composed and confident opening stand from Krish and Rishaan. Both batters looked untroubled as they moved the scoreboard along steadily. With the pair still at the crease after 10 overs, it was decided they’d be retired after the 13th — unless Tiffin could find a breakthrough.

It came soon after, with Rishaan bowled for an aggressive 35 while looking to accelerate. Krish continued in fine form, mixing sharp running with a pair of big sixes on his way to an unbeaten 43 before retiring.

However, the middle order stumbled slightly, with five wickets tumbling between the 14th and 17th overs. Thankfully, Rahavan (15*), Vivaan B (12), and a thrilling final cameo from Ralph (14 off 7, including a huge last-ball six!) lifted the team to a very competitive 166 off their 25 overs.

With the ball, Tiffin’s openers came out swinging and were ahead of the run rate early on. But tight bowling and pressure began to tell. Wickets started falling, and momentum shifted firmly in Wilson’s favour. Naitik and Arnav led the bowling effort superbly, both claiming 3 wickets apiece in their allotted 4 overs.

Tiffin were bowled out for 116 in the 20th over, sealing a 50-run win for Wilson’s.
