Football Update #10

Player of the Week

The 6th XI played some superb football and captain Sachin (Year 11) was at the heart of the good play with an inspirational display. Suvir (Year 7) continues to shine in the new position of goalkeeper for the U12A’s and that was rewarded this week with a clean sheet. The 1st XI were narrowly beaten in the National Cup, but two players could do no more - Adhrit (Year 13) saved a penalty and Emilio (Year 13) showed his quality from left back.

Player of the Week is U15A’s goalscoring machine Joel (Year 10) - he put in an outstanding performance, scoring five goals in the National Cup versus Chertsey.

Team of the Week

In one of the most memorable games involving a Wilson’s team, the U15A’s won 10-8 versus Chertsey. An enthralling game which went one way then the other with the U15A’s eventually getting over the line for the win. The U12A’s moved into the next round of the Surrey Cup with a good 5-0 win away at Richmond Park Academy

Team of the Week are the U13A’s who marched on in the National and Sutton Cup with wins. With Omer (Year 8) showed his usual poise to score in Extra Time to beat Hayes 3-2, the side now face Carshalton in an exciting local derby in round five of the National Cup.

Match Report

Hampton 2–1 Wilson's 1st XI

The 1st XI put in a strong and mature performance away to one of the top teams in the country but were narrowly beaten 2–1 Hampton.

From the start, the 1st XI showed great defensive organisation, sitting deep and tracking their men well with Jacob (Year 12) outstanding. Hampton had most of the ball, but the team stayed disciplined and made it difficult for the hosts to create clear chances.

Both of Hampton’s goals came from corners. The first came when the ball dropped loose in the box and was finished from close range. The second followed another corner — after the 1st XI cleared the initial delivery, the defensive line lost shape, allowing Hampton to cross it back to finish.

The team’s disciplined performance was rewarded when Phillip (Year 11) finished a cross from Tom (Year 13) that went through the centre back and goalkeeper.

The team pushed for an equaliser in the closing minutes but couldn’t quite find one. Despite the result, it was a mature defensive performance full of effort, discipline, and determination against one of the best sides in the country.
