Latin reading competition success

In March, Year 9 and 10 students recorded themselves reading out a piece of Latin. Year 9 students read a story from the Suburani textbook, and Year 10 read a section about a terrifying storm from the Aeneid.

The Vice-President of the Association for Latin Teaching emailed us to tell us the recordings had all been listened to. Here at Wilson’s one of our Year 10’s, Mikhail K, won third place, with feedback praising student’s expression and phrasing, giving particular emphasis to the drama of the section, highlighting Aeneas’ horror. We were delighted to learn that Mikhail’s recording will feature on their website, and he had won a £15 Waterstones voucher!

A few days later, we received the results of the Year 9 competition, and Adrij had received a Highly Commended certificate. In the feedback, it was shared that he had demonstrated a good range of expression which conveyed the meaning of the passage effectively.

In the Latin department, we are so proud of the achievements of all the students who entered, and a big congratulations to Mikhail and Adrij. We’re looking forward to entering again next year!
