Maths Challenge Updates

Intermediate Maths Olympiad
The IMO is split into three age related tiers: Cayley, Hamilton and Maclaurin (Years 9, 10 and 11 respectively). Out of the students who achieved a Gold in the Intermediate Maths Challenge, which was sat in January, the top 500 students in each year group are invited to take part in the Olympiads in March, which consists of a two hour paper where full worked solutions are needed.
We are delighted to announce that there are six students across these Olympiads who scored medals.
In the Maclaurin, Jamie S earned a silver medal and book prize, narrowly missing out on a gold. Abhinav earned himself a gold medal and book prize. They received their prizes just before going on study leave for their GCSE examinations.
In the Hamilton, it was Jamie H who earned a bronze medal and book prize.
Pictured are our year 9 winners in the Cayley Olympiad; Anthony with a Gold, Titus and Dexter with a Bronze. They all also won a book prize.
The most amazing statistic associated with these prizes is that only the top 20 students in the country are awarded gold medals, the next 30 a silver and the next 50 a bronze. Special congratulations to our winners this year!
Junior Maths Olympiad
At the beginning of May all of our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Junior Maths Challenge. 169 students qualified for the Kangaroo (which means they achieved a gold certificate in the JMC). 37 students qualified for the JMO which again was a two hour paper requiring full worked solutions. The results are ‘hot off the press’ and I’m pleased to announce that the students have improved on our haul from last year!
Theo achieved a Gold medal (out of only 40 students in the country!), Richie and Idhant achieved a Silver medal, and Leo and Keynes achieved a Bronze medal. They will receive their medals and book prizes in September.
It is lovely to realise how keen our students are to take part in this special competition and we are really proud of their success.
