It was a typical spring day for the cup final at Northey Avenue, with the sun, wind and rain all making an appearance. Three Wilson’s teams had battled their way to the big day, and all did the school proud!

The U12A’s got the afternoon off to the perfect start, beating Carshalton 2-0 to lift the cup for the first time in over a decade at that age group (banner photo, above). Joel (Year 7) takes the credit for both goals, but it was an outstanding display from all members of the team.

The U16A’s went down 3-0 against Sutton but the game was closer than the scoreline suggests, with penalties being a major factor. Unfortunately, Wilson’s at 1-0 missed a penalty with a great save from the Sutton keeper and Sutton went on to score two more. A disappointment for the U16’s, but it should not detract from what has been a brilliant season.

The final game of the day was a tense affair with the 1st XI going into the match as underdogs against a highly respected Sutton team who beat them just a month ago. But the young, inexperienced 1st XI did what they have done all season: they gave it their all and found a path to victory. Goals from Harry (Year 12), Matt (Year 12) and Jadon (Year 13) led them to a 3-2 win, marking the third Sutton Cup win in a row! (Read the full match report here.)

It was a great way to end the season and a special thank you to all those who braved the Northey Avenue micro-climate to support the teams. It finished another special season with 31 teams playing an astonishing 385 games, despite a few cancellations due to poor weather. A huge thank you to all our staff, officials, opposition, families, Old Wilsonians and—most importantly—our dedicated players, who continue to make Wilson’s Football so special.
