Player of the Week

Noel (Year 11) scored an early contender for goal of the season with a stunning volley into the top corner for the 3rd XI. Antony (Year 10) flew to the top of the goal scoring charts with a hat-trick for the U15A’s. Nazar (Year 12) was influential for the 1st XI on Saturday, with some fantastic moments on the ball – he made the first goal and scored the important third with a composed finish.

Player of the week is Bruno (Year 11) who made his debut for the 1st XI against Brentwood and put in two excellent displays, covering every blade of grass, and showing quality on the ball.

Team of the Week

It was a successful set of opening fixtures with the teams remaining unbeaten. The 4s, 5s and U15A team scored some great goals in convincing wins. The 3rd XI produced a mature performance, keeping a clean sheet away to Tonbridge in their win.

Team of the week are the 1st XI who had a brilliant first week. A very young team with just two Year 13 pupils put in two battling away displays to get two very good results. Well done to Matt (Year 12, Captain) and the squad. The most impressive part of the weekend was the commitment from the teams: despite not being back at school, over eighty pupils played. A fine start to the season by all.

Match Report

Wilson’s 1st XI 3 VS 1 Tonbridge
After a superb result in pre-season which saw a very young 1st XI side grind out an excellent 2-2 draw away to Brentwood School, the 1s looked to hit the ground running as they started the season away to Tonbridge School, a journey not for the faint-hearted.

The exuberant Wilson’s were bursting to start strong. There were four 1st XI debuts being made in Asa (Year 11), Zohair (Year 11), Sam (Year 12) and Nazar (Year12), who were all determined to make an impact in the game, but that was nipped in the bud as Tonbridge took the lead inside five minutes.

However, that extremely early goal didn’t stop Wilson’s strong, physical, and feisty attack, as goals from Yousif (Year 12) and Freddie (Year 12) saw the young 1st XI side, consisting of only two Year 13s retake the lead. This was then followed by a ropey rest of the first half, in which Tonbridge School pushed hard for an equaliser, but the well drilled 1s stuck at it and went into the half-time break 2-1 up.

The second half was a different story. Substitutes Ivor (Year 12) and Bruno (Year 11), also making debuts, changed the game with their high intensity and defensive discipline. It would not be long before Bruno would nick the ball off the Tonbridge FB, drive down the line and pick out Nazar for his first of the season, a debut assist for Bruno and Wilson's 3rd of the game.

The rest of the game was managed reasonably well and, in this period, we saw another Year 11 debut in Dino, who was brought on to help sure up the midfield. Wilson’s defended wave after wave of Tonbridge attacks, but that wouldn't be enough as the referee blew for the final whistle.

A roar of delight came from the touchline as the 2s and 3s watched on for the final minutes of the game; an all-round good performance from the team and a flying start to the season for a very young and ambitious Wilson’s 1st XI.
