Wilson’s 1st XI 1 VS 0 Gordon’s

On Saturday, Wilson’s 1st XI took a trip down to Woking to play a strong Gordon’s School side in frosty conditions. Playing on a pristine new 4G pitch, the team readied themselves for the match.

As the game got under way, the Gordon’s faithful were in full voice as they cheered on their players. But the first chance of the game came to Wilson’s when Nazar (Year 12) was released down the left-hand side and was denied from a tight angle by the Gordon’s keeper. Wilson’s continued to look threatening on the break through wingers Jadon (Year 13) and Bruno (Year 11) and eventually got their reward: the set-piece specialist Harry (Year 12) pinging in an inviting corner, which was met by the head of Nazar (or so he claims!) for his 26th goal of the season (photo below).

In the second half, Gordon’s began to dominate the ball in the search for an equaliser. The Wilson’s team stood firm and frustrated the opposition players, limiting them to long shots which were easily snapped up by goalkeeper Craig (Year 13). Captain Matthew (Year 12) rallied his back four from centre-back and the midfield 3 of Harry, Dhillon (Year 13) and Asa (Year 11) worked tirelessly to keep them at bay. After a late Gordon’s corner was headed away by the ever-present Ben (Year 12), the referee blew his whistle for full-time. Wilson’s had won 1-0.

This was a hard-fought but deserved win for the 1st XI. Special mention to Sam (Year 12) and debutant Max (Year 12) who came on and tightened things up. The team will now look to keep up their good form against Wimbledon College on Wednesday as they continue to prepare for a Surrey Cup game against Royal Russell in a couple of weeks’ time.
