We are proud at Wilson’s of our determination to hear the voices of our students about their experiences in school and are always keen to hear good ideas about how to make school life better for everyone. Our termly Student Board meeting is a great opportunity for students across the school to have their voices heard.
Each form group will select both a representative and an idea. Proposals should focus on the student experience of school and positive suggestions to improve the daily experience at Wilson’s. Each form representative will then take their idea to their Year Manager, from where one idea and one representative will be chosen. In fact, it often happens that ideas which are not selected at this point are still passed on to relevant staff members; Year 11, for example, this term, proposed a new “heavy bag” for our recently refurbished Fitness Suite: an idea passed directly to staff in the PE Department.
Representatives from each year will then convene and discuss, with the help of staff members, the proposal from each year group. This term, proposals ranged from ideas about reserving food at the canteen or computers in the library, to further recognition of students who have gained House Points. We listen carefully to what students have to say and practical suggestions for improving the student experience at Wilson’s will be explored further. Thank you to all our representatives, as well as to School Captain Jerome for his expert chairing of the discussion.
