CONCERTS AND CUP FINALS
Posted on: | Category:

Thursday, 30 March was a red-letter day for very many musicians and sportsmen at Wilson’s, with three teams making it to the annual Sutton Cup Finals at Northey Avenue (1st XI, Year 11 and Year 7 teams) and the hotly anticipated Spring Concert the very same evening. We are especially proud of the students who managed to take part in both, including Craig (Year 13) who is a true role model for participation in school life!

The Spring Concert was a roaring success, with outstanding performances from both the Junior and Senior Orchestras under Dr Burton and Mr Kramer, the Chamber Wind Ensemble under Dr Clayden, and the choirs under Mr Hann, our Director of Choral Music. Highlights included the Clarinet Ensemble (directed with great precision, as always, by Mr Sanders) and the Odyssey Big Band’s terrific set, including The Girl from Ipanema and Jump Up, Super Star!

It was great to hear so many Junior and Middle School ensembles playing so well, given that they take centre stage in the summer term. Junior Strings gave a very touching performance of Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, while Junior Orchestra’s performance of Sibelius’ Finlandia bodes very well for their future outings. There is much to look forward to next term, including of course the Wind Band Bandstand Showcase at the Horniman Gardens.

Stop press: we are delighted to report that the 1st XI won the Sutton Cup 3-2, and that the Year 7 team also prevailed (2-0). Look out for reports and more photos early next term. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday!
