Wilson's School

Non Sibi Sed Omni-Chess!

Earlier this term, the annual Old Wilsonians Chess Match took place at the school with a mix of current and former students playing against each other in one tournament across seven games of blitz chess.

Thanks to Tharshan Kuhendiran (OW 2019) for organising the event again, and for embodying the school's motto - Not For Oneself, But For All!

A review of the day's events - penned by Tharshan - is attached below:

Just over a month ago Wilson’s School played host to the annual Old Wilsonians Chess Match. In a shake up from previous years where current students faced off solely against former students in a team format, this year all 24 participating players took part in a single all v all tournament to crown the ultimate champion.

Seven rounds of tense but entertaining blitz games took place filled with both brilliant moves and some questionable blunders that the returning students in particular will want to forget. Credit has to go to the former students though, as for many of them this was their first time playing chess since the last Old Wilsonians Chess Match over a year ago! After 3 hours of chess, music, a lot of pizza and playing frisbee between rounds, it was in fact an Old Wilsonian in Varun who came out on top with an impressive 6 wins out of 7.

A big thank you to Mr Elwood for helping me to organise and run this event again so smoothly and any former students interested in playing next year, feel free to drop me a message or an email - hopefully we can make next year’s event even bigger!
