Old Wilsonian honours Coleridge-Taylor at 150

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) lived for most of his life close to the school's current home in Wallington, including at a house near Waddon Station. He is buried at Bandon Hill Cemetery. He was an exceptionally successful composer in his time, writing large-scale works for English music festivals, including the Three Choirs Festival (on the recommendation of Sir Edward Elgar) as well as best-selling piano and chamber works.

At this year's festival in Hereford, the 150th anniversary of his birth was celebrated in a performance of his oratorio The Atonement, conducted by Director of Music at Worcester Cathedral and Old Wilsonian, Samuel Hudson.

Reviews have described the performance as "superb", with the Times review praising the "vim" of the orchestral and choral forces.

We are delighted to hear that other Old Wilsonians have taken part in the festival this year, including in the National Youth Choir performance during the final weekend.
