Rehearsals Underway as Richard II Opens Next Week
Rehearsals are in full swing for Wilson’s highly-anticipated Senior Production of Richard II by William Shakespeare, which opens next week!
This year’s production offers a bold reimagining of Shakespeare’s political drama, setting the play in a dystopian world where Richard rules as the charismatic leader of a cult. As opening night approaches, rehearsals have taken on a heightened intensity, with students refining performances that explore themes of power, loyalty and betrayal.
Students from Years 9 to 13 have been working intensively after school and during rehearsals, developing their skills as actors, performers and collaborators. From mastering Shakespeare’s demanding verse to experimenting with movement, ensemble work and striking staging, the cast are experiencing the realities of a professional rehearsal process.
Mr Kavanagh says "What has been particularly impressive is the level of commitment and maturity shown by the students as the production nears performance. They are not only learning lines, but interrogating character motivation, responding creatively to direction and making bold artistic choices. The rehearsal room has become a space of focus, challenge and creative risk-taking."
With opening night just days away, excitement is building for what promises to be a night of thrilling theatre, showcasing the talent and dedication of students and the strength of Wilson’s Drama and Dance Department.
£10 tickets for Richard II are now on sale via Arbor and will also be available on the door. With limited availability - and the show opening next week - audiences are encouraged to book early and support what is set to be a powerful and memorable production.
Running across three nights, the production will start at 7pm on Tuesday (10 February), and at 6pm on Wednesday and Thursday (11 & 12 February).
Remember - All students study Shakespeare, so this is a perfect opportunity to see some LIVE!
