Wilson's School

Rest and Be Thankful

An extract follows from Mr Lissimore's end of term message to parents.

There have been no fewer than 46 trips and visits so far this term (not counting Duke of Edinburgh Awards expeditions or CCF camps and outings - or the Year 8 Watersports trip, which falls after the end of term). This may well be a record, and I very much hope that your son has enjoyed some of these opportunities. Please do keep an eye on the website and Instagram as we share more images and stories from Activities Week, including from the various University Preparation Programmes for all students in Year 12.

Sports Day always marks the end of summer term at Wilson's and provides a great opportunity to celebrate sporting efforts and achievements. Every year, Mr Dudley and Mr Ford give me a list of highlights to read out during the event but this year there were too many to mention. Here are a few that I could not fit into today’s commentary:

  • Pupils performed superbly in the Borough Cross Country Championships earlier this year - particularly the new Year 7 team. Five of the six athletes finished in the top twenty, with Will (7G) placing highest overall. This excellent team effort meant the Year 7s finished second out of all schools competing in their year group.
  • Both the U12B Cricket and U12B Football teams have been unbeaten all season!
  • The U13A Cricket teams won the Surrey Indoor 6s Competition.
  • U14A Badminton players were finalists in School Sport Magazine and Badminton England Nationals.
  • Three football teams made it to the Sutton Cup finals.
  • Eight students were selected to represent Team Sutton at the Surrey Schools' Athletics Championship. The standout performance was from James (9G), who claimed an excellent victory in the 80m hurdles.

Of course it is not just sportsmen who can demonstrate great sportsmanship, and I would direct your attention to the closing paragraph of the superb Wilsobotics website article by Adam (10C).

May I wish you and your family a very enjoyable summer break? The best way to prepare for next year’s adventures is to get plenty of rest and enjoy being outdoors in the warmer weather.
