Some students were available to visit the university to collect their certificates. Here are some thoughts from Aksh.
My visit to Southampton University began with an enriching tour of the campus. We explored its historic academic heritage, strolling through the ancient buildings that have been a cornerstone of this prestigious institution. With vibrant student life, displayed by the various activities on offer, the University presented itself as a great place of enrichment.
After the tour, we enjoyed an outstanding culinary experience at the university's dining facilities. The University offered a variety of dishes that gave us joy with every bite. The food was situated near the model answers, provided by the winners themselves, allowing us to see each others work and use it as a learning experience.
The day continued with a leisurely game of chess on a grand outdoor chessboard located in the university's gardens. It was a truly unique experience, allowing us to socialise amongst one another and discuss with each other. Overall, the game was physically interactive and added to the enjoyment of the experience.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the keynote speech on the perils of statistics. The speaker explained in depth how the correlations that we find through statistics do not always have to be linked. For example, the rise in Americans eating cheese and people filing for patents had very similar rises, yet clearly had no correlation.
Overall, I and the other winners from Wilson's School had a great experience and are hopeful to win again next year!
