St John's Ambulance award for Wilsonian
Laxmisampath (Year 11) provides an update on his recent good news!
St John’s Ambulance as we know it today was established in the late 1800s, but it has history spanning all the way back to the 11th century, when it was founded by the Knights of St John. The main objective is to provide care and first aid for those who need treatment. St John’s Ambulance has a long history with the sovereign, with one of its most honourable medals being the only medal to still have the face of Queen Victoria on it!
Wilson’s pupils have also been part of St John’s Ambulance for a number of years, due to cadets at our renowned CCF joining this prestigious organisation, a notable mention being our former School Captain and Cadet Warrant Officer, Jerome Fernando.
I am proud to have been selected as Deputy Cadet of the Year for South England! Applicants had to endure not only a lengthy interview with high-ranking members of the organisation (which I was well prepared for through our Futures and Elizabethan lessons at school) but also had to think quickly on our feet in a surprise first aid scenario. As part of this role, I act as a representative for the over 200 cadets in the South, and one of my main focuses is getting young people more involved and aware about first aid - there may be some events coming soon to Wilson’s!
