Wilson’s students win prestigious Young Historian Awards

We are thrilled to announce that two pupils have been named winners in this year’s Young Historian Awards, a national competition that saw a record number of entries — the highest since the awards began in 1987. With 88 participating schools, having two winners from Wilson’s is a truly remarkable achievement.
Kaan, a Year 10 student, won the highly competitive World War I category for his insightful and well-researched essay. His work is currently being serialised for inclusion in the Mid-Trent and Mercia Historian, and has also received an honorary mention in the Historical Association Magazine and with potential for publication in The Historian.
Harjit, now in Year 8, entered the competition as a Year 7 and impressed judges with his essay on Croydon Airport. His work is being actively considered for publication in the Bulletin of the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society, a rare honour for someone so young. Like Kaan, Harjit has also received an honorary mention in the HA Magazine and is being considered for publication in the The Historian.
Both students have demonstrated exceptional historical insight, research skills, and passion for the subject. Their success is not only a testament to their hard work but also an inspiration to the entire Wilson’s community. Both students received considerable book vouchers for their achievements, and both have decided to continue their historical education by using their vouchers to buy David Olusoga's Black and British and Miranda Kaufman's Black Tudors: An untold story.
We are very proud of Kaan and Harjit and look forward to seeing what these talented young historians go on to achieve next.
