Year 7 Soloists' Evening
The Year 7 Soloists' Evening on Thursday, 12 February rounded off a very busy start to spring term in the music department, following just a week after the packed-out Chamber Concert and the first rounds of House Music, which this year attracted over 200 participants. The Britton Centre also hosted the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s LEAP Ensemble along with nearly 80 local young people for workshops and a concert on 1 February. You can find some fantastic photos from that event here.
There are many excellent instrumentalists and vocalists in Year 7 and it is a shame we couldn't hear from all of them on Thursday. Just 21 were nominated by their teachers, including Zachary (7H), Mattias (7G), Arjun (7D), Max (7B) and Aryk (7H), who all gave accomplished string performances, Youhan (7H) with some enchanting Nielsen (Spilleværket from his Humoreske-Bagateller) on the piano, and Leo (7S), whose alto sax arrangement of Monti's Czardas was also a highlight of the evening.
Well done to all who have taken part in musical events this half term!
