Wilson's School

Fundraising for Wilson's

A History of Philanthropy

The excellence that Wilson’s has enjoyed throughout its history has been underpinned by many selfless acts of altruism and philanthropy.

After the generous bequest of the land and foundation by Edward Wilson himself in 1615, the earliest record of benefaction at the school dates back to 1649.

Since then, significant fundraising activity has featured at regular intervals in our history.

Development Success at Wilson's

In 2015, the refurbishment of our assembly hall, the John Jenkins Hall, transformed the heart of the school.

In 2022, our inaugural Giving Day raised £135,000 to fund our new Wellbeing Centre and purchase modern music and sports equipment.

In 2023, HRH Princess Eugenie officially opened the Britton Centre - our new £3.5m music and sports block, featuring nine practice rooms, four classrooms, a Recital Room, and a state-of-the-art fitness suite.

In 2024, our second Giving Day raised £104,000 enabling two of our science laboratories to be completely refurbished.

Challenges & Opportunities

Wilson’s, as an Academy School, remains vulnerable though to the vicissitudes of government funding.

In recent years, budget cuts have led to many hard choices about what we are able to offer our staff and pupils.

Having relocated to Wallington in 1975, parts of our campus were constructed more than 50 years ago, meaning they are - in places - tired and dilapidated.

As it stands, our aspiration to be a world class school is simply not matched by the quality of our facilities.

Our Current Development Priorities highlight the key areas for improvement, most notably our ongoing Campaign for Science which will benefit staff and students at Wilson's for generations to come.
