A great season for the Eco-Comittee!

Earlier this week we visited the Gardening Club's school garden to harvest the crops that grew over the summer, which included peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins and butternut squash. Despite the extreme weather experienced earlier in the year, it was a great harvest this season, and we found a lot of ripe and tender produce entangled in vines and leaves in the garden just next to our Science block.

The Eco-Committee has an important role in continuing to keep our school eco-friendly and sustainable. As a school accredited with the highest accolade awarded by the programme, it is our duty to maintain a biodiverse, eco-friendly environment within our school gates and continue to spread awareness among students, so they do the same. Whether through the Eco-Committee or through small changes to our daily habits, every little action helps improve our environment!

The plaque in the photo commemorates the school’s achievement of the Green Flag Award with Distinction. This was awarded by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy last academic year as a result of  our proactive efforts to make sure our school is as environmentally friendly and sustainable a community as possible. In particular, we formed the Eco-Committee, created an environmental action plan and formed a school Eco-Code. The action plan included multiple initiatives over the year, including a poster competition, education around Earth Day and the establishment of Gardening Club.
