Wilson's School

Wilson's Giving Day 2026

Our next Giving Day is set to take place on 23 September 2026 - the autumnal equinox - as we seek to raise £75,000 to kickstart our solar installation project at Mollison Drive. Find out more below!

What is Wilson’s Giving Day?

Wilson’s Giving Day is a biennial event where our community comes together to support the school and our exciting development projects.

It’s a day to celebrate the power of giving and to show how small acts of kindness can lead to significant changes.

Whether it’s through donations or spreading the word, everyone in the school community has an important role to play.

Our Target for 2026

This year, we have set an ambitious target to raise £75,000 to kickstart our solar installation project at Mollison Drive.

The school has decided to pursue this project for three key reasons:

Financial

  • From our recent modelling, the installation of over 300 solar panels at Mollison Drive is expected to generate 125,000 kWh of electricity annually. This would deliver estimated first-year savings of over £25,000 on our energy bill which continues to rise due to unpredictable global factors.

Sustainability

  • With a total project cost of around £150,000, the anticipated payback period of the solar system would be 6 years. After this period, the solar system will continue generating free electricity for the school for the remainder of its operational life which is typically 25+ years. This will provide substantial long-term savings and protection against rising energy prices.

Environmental

  • Initial estimates indicate the solar system is projected to reduce the school’s carbon emissions by over 25,000 kg of CO₂ annually, supporting our wider sustainability objectives and commitment to have a positive effect on the environment.

With the brilliant support of our parents, alumni, and friends of the school, the Development Team are confident the school community can work together to achieve our goal.

Matched Funding

We are delighted to have secured matched funding for Wilson's Giving Day 2026 to support our fundraising efforts.

This means the value of every donation made towards WGD2026 is worth double!

Thanks to the generosity of a supporter of the school - who wishes to remain anonymous - every £1 given by a member of our school community will be matched by them (e.g. a £60 donation from a current parent is actually worth £120).

With matched funding in play, we are able to double the impact of every contribution, accelerate our fundraising, and encourage donations at all levels!

How to Get Involved

  • Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Donations can be made primarily through our secure two-click JustGiving platform online, but the Development Office are also happy to assist with bank transfers and cheques.

Special Event and Activity

On 23 September 2026, Mollison Drive will be transformed into a sun-themed savannah as we celebrate the arrival of our third Giving Day with an Everybody Loves The Sunshine-themed Mufti Day.

Pupils and staff will be encouraged to don their sunniest attire - including sunglasses, flip flops and beach hats - with £1 mufti fees set to be added to our overall fundraising total for WGD2026.

Beyond this, plans are also in place to physically mark support received during this campaign by planting sunflowers across the school grounds - details to follow!
