AT WILSON’S SCHOOL
WILSON’S GIVES YOU the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports, and not just at an elite level! You can also participate purely for enjoyment in the many clubs and activities that are available.
The curriculum covers many diverse areas from team sports to individual activities: cricket, football, badminton, table-tennis, climbing, rugby, athletics, cross-country, tennis, volleyball, basketball, fitness training and golf.
Pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential. For many this will mean representing the school at district, county or even national and international level. A large number of past and present pupils have represented their country in sport at their age group level and indeed a number have now done so at senior level.
The school has many links with clubs and organisations who can provide opportunities outside of Wilson’s as well as a team of highly qualified staff with great expertise in one or more areas. In addition, many external coaches are used in games blocks to ensure a high quality delivery of the subject. Wilson’s has extensive facilities in a refurbished sports hall, provided with all the equipment necessary, including indoor cricket nets and bowling machine, a gym / table-tennis hall with climbing wall and an area for judo.
The outside facilities include:
• 11 rubber crumb 5-a-side astroturf pitches and two 7-a-side pitches
• 6 outdoor cricket nets
• 5 football pitches
• 1 rugby pitch
• 2 cricket squares
• Grid areas for training
There are also a number of sports clubs and facilities local to the school which are used during games afternoons.
All boys take part in inter-house competitions, not just the top performers. Wilson’s boys take part in district, county and national competitions, often reaching the final rounds; they have won a number of national titles. Extra-curricular sport takes place evenings and weekends throughout the year; the sports fields are always busy.
Wilson’s School values sport very highly, especially since all the boys have a chance to find an area in which they can develop their individual abilities.
