Cricket Update #3

Team Reports

Wilson’s U13B produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a comfortable victory over John Fisher.

After winning the toss, Wilson’s elected to bat and experimented with a mixed batting order. The innings was anchored superbly by Advik, who stood out with a composed 47 off 54 balls, guiding the team to a strong total of 135/6.

In response, Wilson’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance, dismantling John Fisher for just 56 in 12.3 overs. Arnav led the attack brilliantly, bowling two maidens and claiming two wickets in a highly disciplined spell. Shrihan made an immediate impact, taking the final two wickets with his first three deliveries. Additional wickets were shared across the attack, with contributions from Sam, Ralph, Vivaan, and two wickets for Ranvir, highlighting a complete team effort with the ball.

Wilson's U13A suffered a narrow 9-wicket defeat, with Reigate Grammar reaching the target from the penultimate ball of the game.

Having been asked to bat first, Wilson’s posted a very respectable 136/4. Reyansh anchored the innings superbly, finishing unbeaten on 44 from 31 balls and accelerating well at the death. Earlier, Arjun (21 off 13) and Will (23 off 22) provided a positive start, although both will feel they missed the opportunity to build bigger innings after getting out to loose shots.

Defending 136, Wilson’s were in a strong position at the halfway stage, with Reigate at 46/1. This was largely due to excellent spells from the seamers, with Tritish returning 1-17 and Vayun delivering an economical 0-9 from his three overs. Rahavan (0-17) also bowled with good control and discipline.

However, the game shifted over the final ten overs, where fielding proved costly. Reigate’s set batters capitalised on lapses in concentration and applied sustained pressure. A total of 18 byes, several missed run-out opportunities, and some uncharacteristic boundary fielding allowed momentum to slip away. A lack of awareness in key moments ultimately made the difference.

Reigate chased down the target from the penultimate ball, leaving Wilson’s to reflect on what had been a strong position.

A tough result, but a clear reminder of how crucial fielding and game awareness are at this level.

Wilson's U13B won toss, and elected to bat first and posted a strong total of 137/8 from their 20 overs. Openers set the tone early, with skipper Vivaan leading from the front with a composed 38 off 40 balls, well supported by Reshaan’s 29 off 35. The pair built a solid foundation, and the rest of the team contributed valuable runs, showing good awareness of when to accelerate, particularly with wickets in hand.

In response, Reigate Grammar were immediately under pressure thanks to early breakthroughs from seamers Ralph and Arnav, leaving them struggling at 6/2 after just two overs. Although the seam bowling became slightly inconsistent, Vivaan made an excellent tactical decision to introduce spin after eight overs—a move that proved decisive.

The spinners dominated proceedings, sharing eight wickets between them:

  • Natik: 2.3 overs, 13 runs, 4 wickets
  • Sam: 3 overs, 9 runs, 3 wickets
  • Srihaan: 2 overs, 2 runs, 1 wicket

Reigate were eventually bowled out for 80 in 15.3 overs, sealing a comprehensive victory.

A special mention goes to Krish, who produced one of the finest catches seen in school cricket—an outstanding moment in an already strong team performance.

Wilson’s U13C won the toss and elected to field first against Reigate Grammar, making an immediate impact with the ball. Early breakthroughs saw Wilson’s take four wickets inside the first five overs, putting the opposition firmly under pressure.

As bowling changes were made to give everyone an opportunity, Reigate were able to rebuild slightly, but were eventually bowled out for 101 in 19 overs. While there were strong individual performances, the team will need to focus on improving line and length, with 31 wides proving costly.

Josh was the standout bowler, delivering an excellent spell of 4 wickets for just 4 runs.

In response, Reigate’s bowlers also struggled for consistency, conceding runs through extras and loose deliveries. Wilson’s took full advantage, progressing steadily through the innings. After 9 overs, the score had moved to 70, with Arya (12) and Arav (21) both retiring after solid contributions.

Edward then finished the game in style, scoring 14 from 11 balls to see Wilson’s comfortably over the line.

A positive result overall, but a consistent theme remains—improving accuracy with the ball and raising fielding standards will be key areas for development going forward.

Wilson’s 1st XI won the toss and elected to bat against Reeds in the second round of the cup.

After a difficult start that saw two early wickets fall, Rayyan (51) and Vaibhav (22) combined well to steady the innings and rebuild momentum. However, with overs running out and wickets continuing to fall, Ved added a valuable 18 to push Wilson’s to a total of 120–6 from their 20 overs.

The Reeds bowling attack was excellent throughout, maintaining discipline and making scoring opportunities hard to come by for the Wilson’s batters.

In reply, Reeds approached the chase confidently, capitalising on some inconsistent bowling that was often short and strayed on both sides of the wicket. Their batters scored freely, reaching the target in just 12 overs for the loss of only one wicket.

Wilson’s U15A won the toss and elected to field against John Fisher in the Barclays Knight/Stokes Cup.

The innings began with some wayward seam bowling, allowing John Fisher to get off to a steady start. However, a switch to spin proved to be the turning point. Olly led the charge with an outstanding spell, taking 6 wickets and triggering a collapse that saw John Fisher bowled out for just 79.

In reply, Wilson’s faced early setbacks with the loss of a couple of wickets, but a composed middle-order partnership between Chirayu and Vidur steadied the innings. Their sensible batting guided the team through the chase, securing victory with 7 wickets in hand.

A strong turnaround after the early overs, with the introduction of spin and disciplined batting proving decisive.

Wilson's U12A lost the toss and were asked to field. Excellent bowling laid the foundation, with Arnav (4-1-9-2) and Vaishnu (3-2-3-2) leading the attack superbly. Their control and discipline, combined with energetic and committed fielding, ensured Reigate were never able to fully capitalise on a positive start. After 10 overs, Reigate were well-placed at 61-2, but regular wickets and sustained pressure restricted them to 103-6.

In reply, Ishaan (43*) and Nilan (24) produced a match-winning partnership of 66, guiding the team home comfortably in just 12 overs. Both batters dealt particularly well with the short ball, while their communication and sharp running between the wickets stood out throughout the innings.

Wilson’s U12B were asked to field after losing the toss against Reigate. It was a solid effort with the ball, as wickets were shared across the attack, helping restrict Reigate to 112–9. However, a significant number of extras—51 in total—boosted the opposition to what proved to be a challenging target.

In reply, Wilson’s struggled to build momentum in the chase. A lack of urgency at the crease saw too many dot balls and several opportunities for singles turned down, allowing the pressure to build throughout the innings. Despite their efforts, the team fell short, finishing on 100–9.

Vihaan was the top scorer with 20 from 41 balls, showing resilience at the crease in a difficult chase.

A game that highlighted strong bowling discipline, but also clear areas for improvement in game awareness and intent while batting.

Wilson’s 12C won the toss and electing to bowl, the team showed good intent with the ball. While there were some early challenges with setting the field—something to work on going forward—the overall bowling effort was positive. At times the line wavered, but the group stayed disciplined enough to restrict Reigate to 133–7.

In reply, the chase was dominated by an outstanding batting display. Nikhilesh led from the front with a superb unbeaten 47 off 31 balls, showing the ability to strike cleanly all around the ground. He was well supported by Rishi, who added a quick-fire 31* off 17. Combined with a healthy contribution from extras, the target was reached comfortably in just 13.5 overs.

Nikhilesh was particularly impressive, not only with the bat but also with consistent bowling, and looks a strong candidate for higher-level selection. A very encouraging start overall, with clear areas identified for improvement.
