Football Update #18

Player of the Week

Aron (Year 8) scored one of the goals of the season for the U13As, beating six players and slotting it past the goalkeeper. Another Year 8 pupil to shine was Samrudhan, who was the best player on the pitch in the U13Cs game versus Ravens Wood. Vayun (Year 7) made his U12A team debut and didn’t disappoint - he was outstanding in centre midfield alongside U12A captain Tommy. The U12Bs made it two clean sheets in a row - and eleven for the season - which goalkeeper Qasim (Year 7) should be extremely proud of. Aidan (Year 9) kept up his stunning form this season with another hat-trick for the U14As. Player of the Week is U12A inspirational centre back Ali (Year 7) who has been a leader both on and off the field this year.

Team of the Week

It was a good start to the half term for the U13As who made it two wins in a week against Ravens Wood and Cardinal Vaughan. The U12As and U12Bs continued their excellent seasons, winning their four games whilst scoring seventeen goals and only conceding one in the process. Team of the Week is the 3rd XI who beat Cardinal Vaughan 2nd XI 4-0. They defend excellently throughout as a tea then goals from Rishi (Year 11) and Nana (Year 11) led them to victory.

Match Report

Wilson's 3rd XI 4 vs Cardinal Vaughan 0

The match began at a high intensity. Wilson's intense press allowed them to take the advantage from the get-go. Nana O won the ball crossing the ball to Jack for a clinical finish. The intensity died down for the next 10 minutes but after winning the ball from Cardinal Vaughan it took but a simple ball over the top to put Nana O through to finish a simple one-on-one after muscling through two defenders.

The intensity of the first half stifled after that goal revealing the disciplined defence of the team to not concede when the ball remained in their half. The first half therefore ended 2-0.

The second half started at a higher pace with Wilson's long kick off almost getting them in behind. Although many chances were displayed to the team from Nana O's excellent through balls, Wilson's were yet to score in the second half.

With twenty minutes remaining Jacob crossed an excellent ball, met by Nana A. A bullet header that was sure to go in. But alas, the keeper made an excellent save. Through Rishi's initiative, he reaches the second ball and makes it 3-0. The game continues with absolute dominance from Wilson's. The last 10 was quite a bit weaker, with the defence giving away sloppy free-kicks and the clean sheet looked uncertain. But they remained disciplined and strong, not letting any good shots off. The game was coming to an end, and the win was certain but to top it off Jack scored an excellent goal at a tight angle from Nana O's sneaky ball. The game ended at that with Wilson's winning 4-0 and Nana O getting Man of the Match.
