Latin students turn playwrights

Before half term, we were excited to learn that Aathiran and Tanish (both in Year 8) had written a play in Latin and wanted to perform it for the class. On 5 March, a cast of 15 students performed this mini masterpiece during their lesson.

Taking inspiration from the ancient world and what they have learned in our lessons together, they created their own original characters, named Gaius and Flavius, who one day find a baby. Flavius decides to raise the baby as his own, whereas Gaius leaves as he’s a thief. 6 years later, Flavius learns that Gaius is in prison, and he goes on a daring rescue! This play would have fit perfectly in the collection of unusual and entertaining stories written by Roman author, Petronius.

The creativity and hard work that went into this play was wonderful to see and we all enjoyed watching the performance. I was so proud to see my students being creative and sharing their incredible work with us. I wonder if there will ever be a sequel for us to enjoy the further adventures of Flavius and Gaius...
