TRAINING IN DUNDEE

Towards the end of August, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to partake in 12 hours of pilot training as part of the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme. It was a long train ride to get up to Dundee but I was eager to go flying and meet the three other equally enthusiastic cadets participating in the course.

Organised by Tayside Aviation, the course ...

GLIDING AT KENLEY

On Saturday 4 June, four very lucky RAF cadets, including me, were granted the opportunity to go gliding at RAF Kenley with the 615 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

Excitement was running high on the morning as we were the first cadets to go flying since April of 2017 . When we arrived, it was raining; regardless, we carried on with the ground ...

QUALIFIED AEROSPACE INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Over the last 7 months I have taken part in the Qualified Aerospace Instructor Course Number 14. The annual course is the most prestigious opportunity for air cadets and only 40 cadets in the entire country get onto it. It teaches cadets between the ages of 16-18 disciplines such as air traffic control, aerodynamics and air power. All participants ...

PILOT TRAINING

Run by the RAF each year, the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme is an initiative which provides cadets with the fantastic opportunity to train as a pilot with the aim of 'going solo' by the end of the course. Earlier in the year, I put forward my application and, after an agonising three month wait, I found out that I was fortunate enough to be one of the 29 ...

CCF

Throughout the first week of the Easter break, members of Wilson's CCF took part in a 3 day programme in order to learn skills essential to the CCF experience, including handling weapons, living out in the field and brushing up on foot drill. Whilst the recruits were very inexperienced having missed out on a number of opportunities due to online ...

CCF LOCKDOWN EXPERIENCES

RSM Flowers:
The past few months have been an interesting, yet rewarding, opportunity to learn and develop the contingent during a period that can only be described as bizarre. The Army's expression 'improvise, adapt, overcome' has really come to embody the nature of lockdown learning with the battle between the online medium and some of our ...
