A fantastic weekend back in July saw Alex (Year 9) take part in the 1500m at the English Schools’ Track and Field Athletics Championships, being held at Sportcity Arena Manchester. After a controlled and steady performance, Alex qualified for the final, making sure he kept something in reserve in blisteringly hot conditions, not best suited to middle distance running.
In the final, Alex controlled the race from the outset, leading the field and setting the pace in the opening three laps. As the bell rang for the last lap, Alex turned on the after burners and sped away from his nearest rivals! He finished in an amazing 4.04s, a personal best time and a very well deserved gold medal! This time also beats the school record, something which Alex already holds, having run 4.05s earlier in the year.
A fantastic result for Alex and we wish him all the best with the rest of the season.
